Keeping Family Heritage Alive

Families are more than people who share a name.

They are living narratives shaped by memories, values, hardships, joy, and the echoes of the past.

When families know their stories, they carry stronger anchors.

A clearer sense of identity.

A deeper feeling of belonging.

I work with families, care homes, and communities through heritage coffee table books, storytelling workshops, talks, and community projects. Through guided conversations and thoughtful design, I help preserve family heritage as a living legacy, one that strengthens connection across generations and keeps stories in circulation.

Let’s start with a conversation about your family stories.

Why Your Family Story Matters

Research in transgenerational narrative theory shows that children who grow up knowing their family stories develop stronger identity, emotional resilience, and emotional wellbeing. Knowing where we come from gives us roots in a world that moves fast and forgets easily.

When we share intergenerational narratives, we pass down more than memories. We pass down values, cultural inheritance, and a sense of connection to our lineage. These stories become anchors that help individuals understand who they are and where they belong.

Storytelling as a Transformative Practice

Storytelling is not only powerful for those who receive these stories. For those who tell them, the process itself can be quietly transformative.

Remembering and sharing defining moments, hardships endured, and challenges overcome brings clarity and meaning. These experiences shape character, strengthen relationships, and reveal the threads that bind a family together across generations.

Our stories become memory-keepers, holding pride and humility, love and loss, resilience and hope, woven into a living family tapestry.

We rarely value our family history while the storykeepers are still with us. It is only after they pass that we realise how many memories were never asked for, never heard, and now lost.

Is today the moment to listen, record, and preserve the stories that still live within your family?

How I Work with Families: The Heart of My Work

My work sits at the intersection of storytelling, design, and lived experience. Through carefully guided conversations, workshops, talks, and thoughtfully designed coffee table books, I help families, care homes, and communities preserve their narratives, not as nostalgia, but as a living legacy.

These heirloom-quality books and projects honour ancestry, celebrate treasured moments, and ensure bloodline stories are not lost to time. They are created to be returned to, shared across generations, and passed on as part of an enduring family and community heritage.

Alongside bespoke books, I deliver storytelling workshops and talks within care homes and community settings, using personal photographs, shared memories, and creative prompts to support reminiscence, connection, and a renewed sense of belonging. These projects put lived experience at the centre, recognising older adults as vital memory-keepers whose stories strengthen identity and continuity across generations.

Using visual artistry and narrative craft, I capture lineage and ancestry, defining milestones, celebrations, journeys, traditions, values, and the moments that make each story unique.

This work goes beyond design. It preserves identity, belonging, and connection in forms that can be held, revisited, shared, and inherited.

These books and projects become more than pages and photographs. They become stories carried forward with beauty, depth, and dignity.

Why Choose Me?

Preserving family stories is not a technical task. It is an act of trust. Stories carry identity, wounds, pride, silence, and memory. They deserve more than prompts, platforms, or automation.

Human-Led Stewardship

I work as a steward of family heritage, guiding stories with care, discernment, and respect. This is a human-led process, shaped by listening and judgement, especially where histories are complex or emotionally charged. I do not rush stories into neat arcs or sanitised versions. I help families hold truth with dignity.

Intergenerational Storytelling

Unlike services that focus on one person’s memoir, my work brings multiple voices and generations together. I shape intergenerational narratives that reflect how families really live, remember, and belong. The result is not an individual biography, but a shared family tapestry that strengthens connections across time.

Crafted Design as Legacy

Design is central to this work. As a designer, I treat layout, pacing, imagery, and white space as narrative tools. Each book is carefully crafted to hold meaning, not just content. These are memory-keepers designed to live on a coffee table, to be returned to, shared, and passed down as part of a family’s cultural inheritance.

A Practice Built on Trust and Care

I work beyond private commissions, in care homes and community settings, where safeguarding, sensitivity, and person-centred practice matter. That experience shapes how I work with every family. It requires patience, ethical care, and an understanding that stories are not just told, they are entrusted.

A Quiet Commitment to Ethical Storytelling

Finally, this work is intentionally finite. There are no subscriptions, no open loops, and no pressure to keep producing. There is a clear beginning, a thoughtful middle, and a meaningful ending. Families leave with something complete, coherent, and deeply considered.

If you are looking for speed, automation, or a generic solution, this may not be the right fit. If you are looking for someone to hold your family’s stories with care, clarity, and respect, you are in the right place.

If this resonates or piques your curiosity, I’ll be delighted to have a conversation.

What Clients say about us.

“Maria is a unique combination of artist and marketer. She created menus for us that were visually evocative of our ethos and the experience you would expect dining with us. All for what I would say was a more than reasonable cost. Fast, intuitive and caring, she became our benchmark from our first project.”

David

“Working with Maria on several projects over the last year has been fantastic! Maria is friendly, patient and very flexible. Communication with Maria has been smooth and easy and she is very quick to respond. I couldn’t recommend Maria enough and her work speaks for itself!.”

Beki

“Maria has been a very diligent and professional web designer to work with. She went above and beyond to help me create the design I wanted as I myself didn’t know how to create what I wanted. Very accommodating and patient with a good understanding of aesthetics, which is exactly what I wanted. Really appreciate her help and hope to work with her again in the future.”
